Effective Date: March 18, 2013; Revised 4/19/22; Revised 4/17/23; Revised 7/21/25

The library permits photography and filming within public areas, provided it does not interfere with library operations, violate the Patron Behavior Policy, or disrupt patrons.

Photography and filming on library property is restricted as follows:

  • Photography and filming with a handheld device for personal use is allowed, provided it complies with this policy and the Patron Behavior Policy.
  • Patron and staff activities must be able to continue undisturbed during photography or filming.
  • Individuals capturing images or video within public areas are responsible for obtaining necessary permissions from those they photograph or film.
  • The library’s name, logo, and likeness may not be used to imply partnership, sponsorship, or affiliation without prior written consent.
  • If staff determine that photography or filming is disruptive, the individual may be directed to reserve a meeting room for their needs.

Commercial and Professional Photography

Requests to photograph or film for commercial purposes must be submitted in writing at least three business days in advance and require written approval from the Library Director or the Director’s designee. The library reserves the right to:

  • Approve or deny such requests at its sole discretion.
  • Set restrictions, including permitted times and duration, to minimize disruption.

Community Organizations and Private Events

Community organizations reserving study or meeting rooms may arrange for their own photography or video recording. Such activities:

  • Must be confined to the reserved space.
  • Require the organization to obtain all necessary releases and permissions.

Library Photography and Filming

Library staff may photograph, film, or use other recording devices at library programs and events to document services and public use of the library. These materials may be:

  • Used for promotional, publicity, and news purposes.
  • Published on the library’s website, social media, and other media outlets.

This policy also applies to photography and filming by library staff at:

  • Friends of the Library events.
  • Library booths and programs at public events in the community.
