Genealogy and Local History Department
The Preservation Station is designed to digitize personal analog, photographic, and audiovisual materials. By turning obsolete formats into accessible digital files, it preserves the stories, history, and memories they hold.
Guidelines
To book the equipment, call the Adult Department at 330.262.0916 or email ref-staff@wcpl.info. Standard reservations are capped at 2 hours. If no one is waiting, you may extend your time (please notify staff).
You must remain in the space for the duration of your reservation.
Preservation Station Conversion Capabilities
Please be aware that most equipment operates in real time (e.g., a 1-hour VHS takes 1 hour to record). However, please factor in processing and conversion times when planning your 2-hour session.
VHS Tapes can be preserved with our VHS player and VIDBOX Video Conversion Suite.
Stacks of Photos (up to 8.5” by 36” in size) can be preserved with our Epson FastFoto FF-680W High-Speed Scanner
MiniDV Tapes can be preserved with our Sony Handycam with USB Transfer Kit
Photo Negatives and Slides can be preserved with our Epson Perfection V800 Photo Scanner
8mm and Super 8 Film can be preserved with our Kodak Reels Film Digitizer (Available for 3, 4, 5, 7, & 9" reels)
Cassette Tapes can be preserved with our PyleUsa Dual Stereo Cassette Tape Deck- Double Cassette Recorder
Vinyl Records (33 1/3, 78, and 45 rpm) can be preserved with our Audio-Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB-BK Wireless Direct-Drive Turntable
Headphones are available for use, but you must use the provided sanitary headphone covers. You are also welcome to bring your own.
File Storage: Digitized files are very large. Please bring a high-capacity flash drive or SD card.
