Goal 1 – Books
To provide a book and audio-visual collection that is relevant to the community
A. Provide 20% of the operating budget each year for the purchase of materials.
B. Provide additional resources through the Internet and subscription databases.
C. Introduce appropriate new media formats as they emerge.
D. Provide additional access through CLEVNET inter-library loans.
E. Expand high demand collections
F. Keep collections clean, neat and mended.

 

Goal 2 – Children’s Programs
To promote the love of reading and prepare pre-school children to be ready to read
A. Continue a strong schedule of pre-school story times.
B. Continue programs at Head Start and other community agencies.
C. Maintain a strong Summer Reading Program.
D. Continue craft programs and other specialized children’s activities
E. Continue to support Home School families in Wayne County.

 

Goal 3 – Literacy and Life-Long Learning
To encourage reading and learning for all members of the community
A. Continue book discussions for adults.
B. Provide author talks in cooperation with Friends groups.
C. Maintain Homebound Services.
D. Participate in community programs that promote reading and literacy.
E. Provide adult and family programs

 

Goal 4 – Technology
To keep up with appropriate technology available to the public

A. Maintain equipment life cycle and replacement schedule.
B. Continue to acquire Adaptive Technology in response to patron needs.
C. Adopt a Technology plan every three years, review annually.
D. Provide a safe, effective computing environment for the public.
 

Goal 5 – Community Partners
To maximize community resources by establishing positive working relationships with other community agencies
A. Continue to work with public schools, Amish schools and other private schools.
B. Continue to provide Bookmobile stops at participating schools.
C. Continue to participate with literacy programs throughout the County.
D. Continue membership in Chambers of Commerce.
E. Continue to partner with Wayne County Community Foundation, Main Street Wooster and Wayne County Convention and Visitors Bureau
F. Continue to work with the Wayne County Genealogy Society.

 

Goal 6 – Facilities
To provide adequate, well-maintained and well-equipped facilities to all members of the community
A. Complete construction of the new Doylestown Branch Library in 2009.
B. Conduct annual facilities maintenance inspections, including ADA assessment reports.
C. Introduce appropriate new media formats as they emerge.
D. Review hours of service at all facilities each year.

 

Goal 7 – Staffing
To provide a talented, motivated staff that is responsive to the needs of the public
A. Establish a comprehensive training program with a focus on efficiency and good customer service.
B. Strengthen orientation training for all new employees.
C. Continue to develop flexible staffing with employees receiving cross training.

 

Goal 8 – Community Awareness and Involvement
To insure public visibility and awareness of the library
A. Continue to distribute media releases for library programs.
B. Participate annually in the County Fair.
C. Make every library a community gathering place.
